It is often impossible to completely shift a business to renewable power. Therefore, we have to look for carbon capture and storage (CSS) solutions.
However, CSS projects are fairly costly, and their cost varies widely depending on the source of carbon to be captured, distance to storage site and its nature.
According to the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), the cost of capturing one tonne of greenhouse gas in the energy sector is currently in the range from $69 to $103. However, the advancements in technology will reduce the costs of the process. CCSA expects the cost of capturing a tonne of emitted CO2 to drop to $40-57 over the next few years.
