"Cyborg trees" can stand for 500 years
Advanced breeding solutions also help carbon farmers. Hybrid tree species are being developed around the world using gene engineering or biological technologies. "Cyborg trees" grow quickly (gaining 30% per year on the average) and are resistant to pests, and diseases, as well as to typhoons or cyclones. They can stand for 500 years, accumulating carbon, as their roots are strong enough to resist hurricanes. They do not suffer from fungal or bacterial diseases and are resistant to fire.

The Carbon project provides for planting paulownia trees over the area of two hectares in the Kaluga region. These trees grow as quickly as 4-5 m per year and 7 years after planting the trunk of a paulownia tree reaches 40 cm in diameter. Frost-resistant zones seedlings will be used for the project.
